Fanfa Island is a river island in the Jacui River near Triunfo that visitors can only reach by boat from the mainland. The site features walking paths and monuments that tell the story of what happened here during a crucial moment in Brazilian history.
The Battle of Fanfa occurred here in 1836 when Republican forces under Bento Gonçalves clashed with Imperial troops during the Farroupilha Revolution. The conflict ended with the capture of revolutionary leaders after Imperial forces violated a surrender agreement.
The island contains a monument commemorating the historical battle, positioned 200 meters from the boat landing point for visitors to explore.
Boats take visitors from the shore to the island and run regularly back and forth. The pathways on the island are easy to walk and local boatmen can point out important locations.
