Casa da Cultura Mario Quintana

Casa da Cultura Mario Quintana is a seven-story building in downtown Porto Alegre housing theater spaces, galleries, cinema, and libraries. The eclectic architecture organizes multiple artistic venues across its floors.

Originally built as Hotel Majestic in 1933 by architect Theo Wiederspahn, the building received prominent guests including President Getúlio Vargas. It later transformed into a cultural venue to support artistic activities.

The place is named after poet Mario Quintana, whose years here are documented through preserved rooms that show his daily life. Visitors can see how an artist lived and worked within these walls.

The site is located downtown and easy to reach on foot, with free entry for all visitors. Plan enough time to explore the different rooms and exhibitions at a comfortable pace.

One room on the upper floors is dedicated to the poet who lived here for several years and worked on his writing. The space displays his original furniture and personal items that reveal details of his daily life.
