Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Catholic church in Rio Pardo, Brazil.
Igreja Matriz Nossa Senhora do Rosário is a Catholic church in Rio Pardo featuring late Baroque architectural design. The building has two towers, a central altar space, and six original decorated retables inside that form a complete religious ensemble.
Construction began in 1791 following designs by Francisco João Roscio and replaced an earlier chapel from 1779 that had fallen into disrepair. This new building was erected as a response to the decay of the older religious structure in the region.
The interior walls display paintings created by Italian artists during the 19th century, depicting religious scenes with spiritual symbolism. These artworks give the space a distinctive atmosphere that reflects the period when such sacred sites were completed.
The building stands in front of Protásio Antônio Alves Square and welcomes visitors. The adjoining plaza offers a natural gathering place that makes orientation simple and the church easy to locate.
The building contains the mausoleum of Baron of Triunfo, General Andrade Neves, a significant 19th-century military figure. His presence inside this space connects the sacred function of the place with local military history.
