Casa de la Independencia Museum, Historical museum in Asunción, Paraguay

Casa de la Independencia Museum is housed in a two-story colonial building displaying furniture, weapons, documents, and personal items from Paraguay's independence movement. The restored rooms present these collections arranged throughout different areas of the house.

The house served as a gathering place for leaders planning Paraguay's independence from Spanish rule. These meetings ultimately led to the independence declaration in May 1811.

The rooms display French furniture from the early 1800s and religious wood carvings from Jesuit workshops, showing how wealthy colonial families lived and decorated their homes. These pieces give a window into the daily life and tastes of Paraguay's upper classes during that period.

The building sits at the corner of Presidente Franco and 14 de Mayo streets in the city center. Plan your visit for a weekday, as the museum does not open on weekends.

A narrow alley beside the museum marks the exact route independence fighters used when approaching the Spanish governor's residence during their uprising. This overlooked passage directly connects the revolutionary history to the city streets.
