The Bosque Mbaracayú Biosphere Reserve, Nature reserve in Canindeyú Department, Paraguay.
The Bosque Mbaracayú is a large protected area with subtropical forests, grasslands, and wetlands in the Jejuí River basin. The landscape consists of different forest types ranging from wet valleys to higher elevations.
The reserve was established in 1991 through cooperation between Paraguay's government, the Moisés Bertoni Foundation, the United Nations, and The Nature Conservancy. This international partnership helped secure the forests for the future.
Local communities use the forest sustainably and share their knowledge about plants and animals with visitors. These practices show how people and nature have coexisted here for generations.
Visitors can explore the area through designated trails and observe wildlife throughout the year. It is advisable to use a local guide to learn more about the different habitats.
The area holds one of Paraguay's last large sections of Atlantic rainforest and shelters rare bird and mammal species. Many visitors are surprised by how many different animals live in this relatively unknown forest area.
