Solidão Lighthouse, Navigation lighthouse in Mostardas, Brazil

Solidão Lighthouse is a 21-meter-tall navigation tower standing on the coast near Mostardas in Rio Grande do Sul. It sends out white flashing light signals to guide maritime traffic through the waters along this part of the southern Brazilian coastline.

The first lighthouse here, an iron tower, was inaugurated on 2 September 1929 to reduce the many shipwrecks along this stretch of coast. Rust later forced its replacement by the current concrete tower. The light has since had operational problems.

The lighthouse's name, Solidão ("solitude"), reflects its isolated position on a stretch of coast where shipwrecks were frequent enough to justify a light. Its red concrete tower with four buttresses is a landmark of the district of Doutor Edgardo Pereira Velho, in the municipality of Mostardas.

The lighthouse is not open to visitors, so it can only be seen from outside, on the coastal road through the Doutor Edgardo Pereira Velho district, about 60 km northeast of the Mostardas beach resort. The tower stands in open dune country, so bring protection against wind and sun. Its light has been reported faulty, so do not count on seeing the beam at night.

The structure operates under the identifier BRA100 and maintains its position at coordinates -30.7014 latitude and -50.4812 longitude for maritime safety.
