Praia da Tapera

Praia da Tapera is a beach in Florianopolis with roughly half a kilometer of yellow sand and shallow water suitable for swimming. The sandy bottom is scattered with small shells, and the water stays warm enough for comfortable bathing.

The Carijós people, the original inhabitants, shaped this region's early history, and the name Tapera comes from their word for abandoned dwellings. This indigenous heritage remains part of the place's identity.

Fishermen in the area offer boat trips to nearby islands, keeping their maritime traditions alive as part of daily community life. You can see these practices throughout the day as locals go about their water-based routines.

The beach sits about 20 kilometers south of downtown Florianopolis and is accessible by car or local transportation. It has few facilities on-site, so bring supplies with you or visit nearby towns beforehand.

At low tide, a narrow strip of seabed becomes exposed, allowing visitors to wade across to Ilha Dona Francisca, one of two islands visible from shore. This temporary connection creates a unique experience that shifts with the tides.
