Tarumã, Municipality in São Paulo State, Brazil
Tarumã is an administrative division in western São Paulo State in southeastern Brazil. The municipality encompasses a rural area with farming communities and supporting infrastructure.
The settlement was originally called Vila Lex after German immigrant Gilberto Lex. In 1927, it was renamed after a local tree species from the Tupi-Guarani language.
The area was shaped by coffee farming for generations before shifting toward sugarcane cultivation. Today, processing facilities are visible landmarks that reflect the region's working life.
The SP-333 highway connects the municipality to larger centers and facilitates agricultural transport. Visitors should note this is primarily an agricultural region with infrastructure designed for local needs.
The name comes from a Tupi-Guarani word for a local tree species called Vitex montevidensis. This botanical connection shows how the natural surroundings shaped the identity of this place.
