Praia do Guaiuba, Ocean beach in Guarujá, Brazil.
Praia do Guaiuba is an ocean beach in Guarujá, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, set inside a cove framed by green hills and Atlantic Forest vegetation that comes close to the shoreline. The sand is fine and the bay is naturally sheltered, giving the water a calmer feel than more open stretches of coast nearby.
The area around Guaiuba was originally home to indigenous communities before European presence grew along the São Paulo coastline. Over time, the cove shifted from a simple fishing spot to a retreat for wealthier families coming down from São Paulo.
The name Guaiuba comes from Tupi and roughly means "yellow bird." Local people gather here to paddle and canoe, keeping a close connection with the sea as part of everyday life rather than just leisure.
The beach has paid parking, shower facilities, and restaurants along the seafront, so most basic needs are covered on-site. The water is most comfortable for swimming during the warmer months, though the sheltered bay makes it usable for other activities year-round.
Although Guarujá is known for its popular beaches, Guaiuba draws more local residents than tourists, which gives it a noticeably different feel from the busier spots in town. Gear rental for water sports is available right on the beach, making it easy to try paddling or canoeing without bringing your own equipment.
