Santos Dumont's hearse

Santos Dumont's hearse is a 1929 Chevrolet Ramona constructed with seventy percent wood components and a six-cylinder engine. The vehicle displays detailed craftsmanship throughout its structure.

The hearse transported aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont's remains after his death on July 23, 1932, at Grand Hotel La Plage in Guarujá. It then carried him from Guarujá to São Paulo and finally to Rio de Janeiro for his final burial.

The vehicle connects early automotive design with Brazilian aviation history and marks the final journey of a national transportation pioneer.

The hearse was displayed at Avenida Puglisi until 2017 and has been stored in a city hall garage since then. Visitors should check access conditions before visiting, as the vehicle may have limited viewing hours.

This rare Chevrolet Ramona model was specifically built for funeral services and represented a blend of luxury automobile design with hearse functionality. Its construction with predominantly wooden components was typical for burial vehicles of that era.
