Founded in 1911, this school was among 170 educational establishments constructed by the São Paulo government during Brazil's First Republic period.
The school building reflects European neoclassical architectural influences, designed by architect Giovanni Battista Bianchi for São Paulo's early public education system.
The structure received heritage protection status from both CONDEPHAAT and Conpresp organizations, recognizing its educational and architectural significance in São Paulo.
Following a fire in December 1992, the building ceased educational operations and is now under renovation to become the Manabu Mabe Japanese-Brazilian Modern Art Museum.
