Ponte do Morumbi, Road bridge in Morumbi district, São Paulo, Brazil
Ponte do Morumbi is a cable-stayed bridge crossing the Pinheiros River in São Paulo, featuring two curved roadways that intersect at different levels. A single concrete pylon rises approximately 140 meters to support both decks, creating a distinctive silhouette above the water.
Construction began in 2005 and took approximately three years to complete. The project was part of São Paulo's infrastructure development to improve traffic connections in this part of the city.
The structure bears the name of Octavio Frias de Oliveira, recognizing the newspaper publisher's contributions to São Paulo's development.
The best views of the bridge come from Marginal Pinheiros expressway or from the riverbank, where you can see its characteristic shape in full. Multiple vantage points nearby offer good opportunities to observe the structure from different angles.
This structure is the only cable-stayed bridge in the world with an X-shaped tower supporting two curved roadways at different elevations. Its unusual engineering design sets it apart from conventional bridge construction found anywhere else.
