Zoológico do Município de São Bernardo do Campo, museum in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo
The Zoológico Municipal de São Bernardo do Campo is a zoo situated within Estoril Park in the Riacho Grande area. The facility spans roughly 10,000 square meters of maintained green space and houses around 350 animals of various types, including birds, mammals, and reptiles cared for by trained staff.
The zoo was established 40 years ago and has been part of the local community ever since. It works closely with authorities to rescue and care for injured wild animals, with about 30 percent successfully returned to nature after recovery.
The zoo teaches visitors about local wildlife and how animals live in their natural environments. Walking through the grounds, you encounter habitats designed to mirror nature, helping people understand the connection between these creatures and the Brazilian landscape.
The zoo is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 in the morning until 5 in the evening, with free entry for local card holders and autistic visitors. The surrounding park requires a small fee, but offers picnic areas, snack vendors, and easy-to-follow paths throughout the grounds.
Many animals here arrived as rescues after accidents or injuries and were healed by the staff. During the zoo's 40th anniversary celebration, recovered animals like saruês and maritacas were released back into the wild to help strengthen their populations.
