Museu Barão de Mauá

The Museu Barão de Mauá is a history museum housed in a historic house and holds a significant collection of photographs, books, and artifacts that document Mauá and the surrounding region. The rooms display how the area developed over time, preserving the daily life of its inhabitants through their belongings and written materials.

The building dates to the 18th century and was constructed as a bandeirista house, making it one of the oldest structures in the ABC region. It survived centuries of urban change and was later repurposed to preserve the community's history for future generations.

The house walls were built with rammed earth, a local material combining clay, stones, wood pieces, and plant fibers that created a durable structure. This ancient building technique was both practical and adapted to the region's climate, reflecting the craftsmanship of its early occupants.
