Tietê Ecological Park, Environmental park in East Zone, São Paulo, Brazil
Tietê Ecological Park is a 14 million m² environmental protection area in the Tietê River floodplain in São Paulo's East Zone, also called Núcleo Engenheiro Goulart. Its architectural and landscaping project was designed by Ruy Ohtake. The park holds a 4 km trail, 17 football fields, 5 multi-sport courts, a lake with pedal boat and bicycle rentals, and a small train service.
The park opened in 1982 as part of flood control efforts in São Paulo's metropolitan area. Architect Ruy Ohtake designed this green space to serve both protection and conservation purposes.
The park's name comes from the Tietê River, and its Engenheiro Goulart nucleus holds the Museu do Tietê, a cultural centre, a library and a stage for shows. A small train runs a 4 km trail where visitors watch the park's birds and other wildlife.
The park is open daily and accessible through several main roads including Ayrton Senna Highway. Wear comfortable shoes and allow time to walk around the different areas and enjoy the trails.
The park's 4 km trail can be covered by a small train, a contracted service that lets visitors observe the flora and fauna without walking the whole route. The park also has a Museum of the Tietê and a library.
