Sertanista house, Bandeirista house in Butantã District, São Paulo, Brazil.

The Sertanista house is a bandeirista building in the Butantã District that displays the rural architecture of its era. The structure with its rooms and front and back porches covers approximately 350 square meters and now stands at Monteiro Lobato Square as a museum of exploration cycles.

The building was erected in the first half of the 18th century as a dwelling for Portuguese settlers. These inhabitants were known for their expeditions into Brazil's interior and shaped the region's early development.

The house displays the building style of settler homes with a rectangular layout, wattle and daub walls, and traditional Portuguese construction methods. This architecture shows how early inhabitants adapted their living spaces to the local climate and surroundings.

The house is easy to reach as it sits centrally at Monteiro Lobato Square. The surroundings offer good opportunities for exploring the historic neighborhood and the area near the former river course.

The roof features specific construction techniques designed to direct rainwater away while keeping its original colonial characteristics. This thoughtful water management was crucial for the building's longevity and protection against moisture damage.
