São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport, International airport in Guarulhos, Brazil.
São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport is an international airport in Guarulhos, Brazil, equipped with three passenger terminals and two parallel runways. The terminals are connected by internal walkways and shuttle buses, with each terminal offering departure and arrival halls, shops and restaurants.
The facility opened on January 20, 1985, replacing the previous main airport for the São Paulo region. Over the following decades, the terminal was expanded multiple times to meet growing passenger demand.
Local artworks and photographs of Brazilian landscapes decorate the departure areas, where travelers often linger in the many cafés before boarding their flights. The architecture combines functional elements with spacious waiting areas, where the busy flow of international passengers shapes daily life.
Signage guides visitors to the different check-in counters, baggage claim areas and departure zones within the terminals. Travelers should allow enough time for the journey from downtown, as the trip can take between thirty minutes and an hour and a half depending on traffic conditions.
Public areas occasionally host small exhibitions by Brazilian photographers and artists, offering changing insights into the country's cultural diversity. Some travelers use longer layovers to explore these art installations before continuing their journey.
