Igreja Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte, Baroque church in historic center, São Paulo, Brazil.
The church displays colonial architecture with walls constructed from rammed earth and includes an extended wooden roof structure along its interior.
Built between 1802 and 1810 with funding from Jesuit members of the Brotherhood of Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte in central São Paulo.
The Brotherhood of Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte, established in 1728, accepted members regardless of ethnicity, social class, or gender in colonial Brazil.
The church operates 24 hours daily at 202 Rua do Carmo Street, offering religious services and maintaining open hours for prayer and sacrament adoration.
The church bells were reportedly the first to ring on September 7, 1822, announcing Brazil's declaration of independence from Portugal.
