The Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo is housed in a building on Avenida Doutor Arnaldo, opposite the Araçá Cemetery in Pinheiros. Designed by Ernesto de Sousa Campos, Luís de Resende Puech and Benedito Montenegro, it was built from 1928 by the Siciliano e Silva construction company and inaugurated in 1931, largely with Rockefeller Foundation funds. The building has been altered over the decades; a Carrara marble staircase, central columns, stained glass windows and a gallery of deceased professors were kept. Its total area is 56,374.40 square metres.

A state law of 24 November 1891 created the Academy of Medicine, Surgery and Pharmacy of São Paulo, but the school was only implemented on 19 December 1912 by governor Francisco de Paula Rodrigues Alves, with Arnaldo Vieira de Carvalho as director. The foundation stone of its own building, opposite the Araçá Cemetery, was laid on 25 January 1920, months before Carvalho's death. Built from 1928 largely with Rockefeller Foundation funds and inaugurated in 1931, the school joined the new University of São Paulo on 25 January 1934 by decree 6.283.

Students call the school "Casa de Arnaldo" after founder Arnaldo Vieira de Carvalho. Its academic center, the Centro Acadêmico Oswaldo Cruz, founded in 1913, publishes the Revista de Medicina since 1916, described in the sources as the oldest academic journal still in circulation. The center's newspaper "O Bisturi" has appeared since 1930.

The complex sits centrally in São Paulo and is accessible from multiple sides, with entrances varying by building. Visitors should note that this is an active educational and research facility with daily activity during term periods.

The building's cornerstone was laid on 25 January 1920, the last major public act of founder Arnaldo Vieira de Carvalho, who died later that year. The Historical Museum opened on 5 June 1977, the anniversary of his death, and held oil portraits by Candido Portinari and Alfredo Rocco and a bust by Tarsila do Amaral.
