Elói Mendes is a municipality in southern Minas Gerais situated at an elevation of 819 meters (2,687 feet). It is bordered by three neighboring municipalities: Três Pontas, Paraguaçu, and Varginha.
The settlement began in 1792 as Espírito Santo da Mutuca and adopted its current name in 1911 when it separated from Varginha as an independent municipality. This change marked the start of its own path forward.
