Naval College
The Naval College is a three-year military school in Angra dos Reis that prepares young people for careers as officers in the Brazilian Navy. The campus sits along the coast and includes large buildings, sports facilities, and training areas for marine sciences and navigation.
The school traces its roots to 1871, when an institution called Externato was founded during the Brazilian Empire to prepare young men for naval careers. After a period of closure and several changes, the government relaunched it in 1946 as the dedicated military school it is today.
Students from all over Brazil come here to train together, and their daily routines follow a strict schedule that shapes their character as much as their skills. The sight of uniformed students on the grounds gives the place a very different feel from a typical school.
The college is an active military institution with restricted access, so a visit to the grounds requires advance permission from the school. Those who pass nearby can see parts of the campus from the waterfront, as the location sits close to the bay.
The college is located in Batista das Neves cove, a sheltered spot that gives students a direct connection to the sea throughout their training. Official assessments have placed it among the top schools in Brazil, meaning graduates leave with a strong academic background alongside their military preparation.
