Casa Grande del Pueblo, Presidential residence in La Paz, Bolivia.
Casa Grande del Pueblo is the tallest building in La Paz since 2018, featuring 29 floors that rise approximately 120 meters above the city. It serves as the official presidential residence and was constructed on the site of a former palace.
The building replaced the historic Casa Alencastre from 1821 and took over from Palacio Quemado as the presidential seat in 2018. This transition marked a new chapter in the history of Bolivia's government buildings.
The building displays a Pachamama mural in the lobby and an archway decorated with 36 faces representing Bolivia's indigenous groups. These artistic elements reflect the importance of Andean cultures in the nation's identity.
Guided tours are available on Saturday mornings at 8:30 AM, with groups of up to ten people going through security. Art collections and certain areas of the building can be viewed during these organized visits.
The building houses specially crafted furniture in the presidential suite that incorporates traditional indigenous patterns into its designs. These artisanal details weave modern architecture together with cultural heritage in subtle ways.
