Museu Geológico da Bahia

The Museu Geológico da Bahia holds more than 20,000 geological objects including minerals, rocks, meteorites, gems, and fossils spread across several exhibition halls. The collection displays the range of natural materials found and studied in the Bahia region.

The museum was founded in 1975 to preserve Bahia's geological heritage and make it accessible to the public. Since then, it has worked to build understanding about the region's natural history and resources.

The museum reveals how minerals and stones held meaning in local Bahian life, from craft traditions to their presence in everyday practices. Visitors can observe how natural resources shaped the region's story and daily habits.

The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 1 PM to 6 PM and weekends from 1 PM to 5 PM with no entry fee. Allow plenty of time to move through the different exhibition areas at a comfortable pace.

The museum displays a reproduction of a massive meteorite discovered in Monte Santo in 1784, one of Brazil's largest. This particular exhibit draws visitors fascinated by space and extraordinary natural discoveries.
