Dom Pedro II Home, Neoclassical mansion in Boa Viagem, Brazil
Dom Pedro II Home is a neoclassical mansion in Boa Viagem featuring two symmetrical wings with tall windows topped by semicircular openings on both levels. The facade stretches about 120 meters along Avenida Luís Tarquínio and displays typical neoclassical proportions with evenly distributed architectural elements.
The mansion was built in the early 1800s as a private residence and transformed into a retirement home in 1887. It received its current name in 1943, marking a key phase in its use as a home for elderly residents.
The building holds a large collection of ceramic urns and statues from the Santo António do Vale Factory in Bahia, displayed throughout its spacious rooms. These pieces come from a local workshop and shape the interior with their handcrafted character.
The building is administered by the Municipal Secretariat for Social Promotion and serves community purposes today. Visitors can tour the interior rooms and access the chapel during regular visiting hours.
Inside the house stands Capela Santa Izabel with a neoclassical altar decorated with gilded wood carvings. This chapel preserves its original decorative details and feels like a hidden room tucked behind the main entrance.
