Feira de Santana is a large city in the state of Bahia, spreading across a wide area inland and serving as an important junction between the coast and the interior. The city sits on a plateau and connects several regions through a network of roads and routes that lead in different directions.
The settlement emerged in the 18th century from a cattle farm that supplied travelers and traders moving between the coast and the interior. Over time, the place grew into a trading hub and officially received city status in 1873.
The city celebrates Saint Anne's Day during July with traditional activities, including festivals, artistic performances, and a contemporary art museum.
An airport outside the city connects travelers to other destinations across Brazil, and highways lead toward the coast and further south. Most visitors arrive either in transit or as part of a longer route through the interior of Bahia.
An observatory on the outskirts focuses on astronomical observation and offers regular educational programs for the local population. The facility also works with researchers who study the night sky over this part of the northeast.
