Salinas da Margarida is a coastal municipality in Todos os Santos Bay in Bahia state, stretching across several districts along the water. The area includes the neighborhoods of Dendê, Encarnação, Conceição de Salinas, Cairu, and Barra do Paraguaçu, covering a total of 65 square kilometers.
Salt production began here in 1881 in the Porto da Margarida village and shaped the community's early development. This industrial origin gave the municipality its current name.
Local artisans transform shells and fish scales into decorative objects like dolls, birds, and jewelry that show regional craftsmanship traditions. These handmade items are popular with visitors and reflect how the community uses natural materials from its surroundings.
