Camaçari

Camaçari is a large city in Bahia, Brazil, spreading over more than seven hundred square kilometers between industrial plants, residential neighborhoods, and green spaces. The municipality sits roughly 120 feet (36 meters) above sea level and forms a key part of the Greater Salvador metropolitan area.

Jesuit priests founded a small settlement here in 1558 that relied on farming for centuries. The construction of petrochemical plants during the second half of the twentieth century transformed the region into a major industrial center.

The city's name comes from a Tupi expression for a native tree that grows in the coastal region. Residents maintain an active daily life between modern factories and traditional festivals that combine African rhythms with regional cooking.

Modern highways connect the municipality to Salvador, and public transport runs regularly between different neighborhoods. Visitors will find both urban areas with shops and services as well as quieter residential districts around the outskirts.

The integrated petrochemical complex is considered the largest in South America and produces raw materials for numerous industries. The facilities have shaped the landscape and economic development of the entire region for decades.
