Itacimirim beach, Coastal beach in Camaçari, Brazil

Itacimirim beach is a stretch of coastline in the municipality of Camaçari, Bahia, formed by a narrow strip of land with the beach to the east and the Lagoas das Virgens and Velado to the west. Its sand is yellowish and its waves are gentle. The mouth of the Pojuca River separates it from Guarajuba and makes the water murky to the north.

The name Itacimirim comes from Tupi, joining itá (stone), sy (mother) and mirim (small), meaning "small stone mother". The settlement began as a fishing village on a narrow strip of land between the beach and the lagoas das Virgens and Velado. In 1984 Amyr Klink landed at its best-known stretch, Praia da Espera, after crossing the Atlantic alone.

Itacimirim was a fishing village before becoming part of Camaçari's Costa dos Coqueiros tourist zone. Its name comes from Tupi: itá (stone), sy (mother) and mirim (small), meaning "small stone mother". The best-known stretch is called Praia da Espera, where food and drink stalls stand today.

Itacimirim is the last beach on the Estrada do Coco heading from Salvador toward Praia do Forte, in Camaçari. The Pojuca river mouth separates it from Guarajuba, and because of the river the water is murky in the north. The beach has guesthouses and a luxury resort with food service; for most of the year the population is only local.

The stretch known as Praia da Espera is where Amyr Klink landed in 1984 after crossing the Atlantic alone. Beach huts there sell drinks and food, and the Pojuca river mouth, which separates Itacimirim from Guarajuba, turns the water murky to the north.
