Projeto Tamar, Marine conservation center in Praia do Forte, Brazil.

Projeto Tamar is a research and visitor center on the Brazilian coast dedicated to caring for and protecting sea turtles. The facility displays different species of these animals in specially designed tanks and explains how they live and the dangers they face.

It was founded in 1982 to protect the sea turtles along the Brazilian coast that were facing serious threats at that time. Since then, it has grown into one of the most important marine turtle protection organizations in the region.

This place holds meaning for locals and visitors as a space where you can meet the sea turtles of the region and understand why they matter. People come here to connect with the animals and learn how they struggle in the wild.

The site is best explored on foot and offers clearly marked paths through all areas so visitors can navigate easily. It is wise to arrive early to see the animals at their most active hours and to avoid crowds.

A notable aspect is the facility's focus on rescuing injured and sick sea turtles that are nursed back to health and released into the wild when possible. This rescue work demonstrates how direct action helps protect these threatened animals.
