Projeto Tamar

The Tamar visitor center spans 10,000 square meters, featuring tanks and aquariums that house four different species of sea turtles native to Brazil.

The research station began operations in 1982 in Praia do Forte, a small village of 500 residents without electricity, marking the start of marine protection efforts.

The center operates educational programs where visitors participate in turtle feeding sessions and attend presentations about marine conservation led by researchers.

Located 75 kilometers from Salvador, the center maintains regular operating hours and provides guided tours for visitors interested in marine biology.

The facility includes a boat-shaped tank that demonstrates the effects of commercial fishing on sea turtles through educational displays and demonstrations.
