Arena Guilherme Paraense, Multi-purpose sports complex in Belém, Brazil
Arena Guilherme Paraense, known as Mangueirinho, is a gymnasium in Belém built on a site of about 23,000 square metres, with 11,970 seats arranged across 31 tiers of stands. Its Olympic floor measures 30 by 50 metres, 1,500 square metres of hardwood laid on a floating system with neoprene rubber dampers. A circular 360-degree LED scoreboard hangs above the court, and a movable stage allows concerts and UFC events.
The facility was designed by architect Alcyr Meira and inaugurated in October 2016 after nearly three years of construction. The project represented a modernization effort to provide the city with contemporary event and sports infrastructure.
The name honors Guilherme Paraense, Brazil's first Olympic gold medalist, from the 1920 Antwerp Games. The arena hosts indoor sports such as volleyball, basketball, handball and futsal, and its movable stage allows UFC events and music shows.
The arena has 247 seats reserved for people with disabilities and 24 public restrooms, eight of them accessible. There are seven locker rooms, eight bars and snack stands, and a parking lot with 224 spaces. The 11,970 seats are arranged across 31 tiers of stands.
The arena is one of only five venues in Brazil that are fully air-conditioned, and the first of its kind in the North Region. Its 360-degree circular LED scoreboard lets spectators follow the action from any of the 31 seating tiers.
