Oiticica Dam

Oiticica Dam is an embankment dam under construction that spans the Seridó and Piranhas-Açu rivers in Rio Grande do Norte. The structure will hold water across a wide area once the work is fully completed.

Construction began in 2013 with the original completion target set for 2015. Progress slowed significantly over the following years as work advanced more gradually than anticipated.

The dam project affects three municipalities - Jucurutu, Jardim de Piranhas, and São Fernando - transforming the local communities' relationship with water resources.

The site is accessible by road through the local area, but access may be restricted since it is under active construction and managed by DNOCS. Check locally before visiting to learn about current conditions.

When completed, it will rank as the third largest artificial reservoir in the state. This makes the project notably important for managing water resources across the broader region.
