Parliament of South Africa, Bicameral legislature in Cape Town, South Africa
The Parliament of South Africa consists of two chambers, the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces, located in a neoclassical building complex.
The Parliament building construction started in 1875 under architect Charles Freeman, but was later completed by Henry Greaves due to planning errors in 1884.
The Parliament building incorporates elements of both neoclassical and Cape Dutch architectural styles, reflecting South Africa's European and local influences.
The Parliament offers guided tours for visitors to observe the legislative process and learn about South African democracy through educational programs.
A severe fire in January 2022 caused extensive damage to the building's third floor offices and the National Assembly session room.
