Fairview Wine and Cheese, Winery and cheese farm in Paarl, South Africa.
Fairview Wine and Cheese is a winery and cheese farm on the southwestern slopes of Paarl Mountain, in the wine-producing region of Paarl, South Africa. The estate has vineyards, separate production areas for wine and cheese, and tasting rooms where visitors can sample both.
The property was founded in 1693 by a French Huguenot settler named Steven Vervey, who called it Bloemkoolfontein. After new ownership took over in 1937, the estate gradually became the wine and cheese producer it is today.
Fairview is known for its goat cheeses, made from milk produced by the farm's own herd, which visitors can taste and buy at the on-site shop. The goats are visible on the property, giving the visit a distinctly farm-like feel.
The estate is about an hour's drive south of Cape Town and is best reached by car. Arriving in the morning gives you more time to move through the tasting areas before they fill up later in the day.
The property features a tower built specifically for goats, which has become one of its most recognizable landmarks. The goats can regularly be seen climbing it, which tends to catch first-time visitors off guard.
