Tygerberg Nature Reserve, Protected nature area in Cape Town's northern suburbs, South Africa.
The Tygerberg Nature Reserve spans 300 hectares across hills, containing 500 plant species and serving as habitat for 100 bird species.
The hills received their name in 1657 as Luipaerts Berghen, meaning Leopard's Mountain, due to the spotted appearance of the terrain.
The Kristo Pienaar Environmental Education Centre maintains a library and resource center, providing educational programs for school groups.
The reserve features 13 kilometers of marked trails, with paths starting from the Welgemoed entrance and connecting throughout the protected area.
Three plant species exist exclusively within the boundaries of this reserve, making it crucial for the preservation of Swartland Shale Renosterveld vegetation.
