Rietvlei Nature Reserve, Nature reserve in Gauteng, South Africa
The reserve spans 4,000 hectares of grasslands and wetlands, with the Rietvlei Dam forming a central feature that attracts numerous water birds.
Established in 1929 as a conservation area, the reserve received official protected status in 1948 and gained nature reserve designation in March 2014.
The reserve functions as an educational center where visitors learn about South African wildlife through guided tours and interpretative programs.
Visitors can access the reserve daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on weekdays and from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM during weekends and holidays.
At 1,483 meters above sea level, the reserve houses 404 bird species and 1,600 large mammals, including cheetahs, zebras, and various antelope species.
