Boksburg

Boksburg is a town in Gauteng that sits on a high plateau where gold and coal resources drove its initial growth. The cityscape shows industrial infrastructure mixed with residential areas that expanded as mining operations grew throughout the region.

A prospector found quartz formations in this area in 1886, leading to the town's establishment in 1887. Mining activity attracted workers and investment, making it an economic hub of the region.

The Hecter-Schultz Afro-culture Museum displays regional artifacts while the community speaks Afrikaans, English, Zulu, and Northern Sotho languages.

The town sits at a high elevation and is accessible by car or public transport routes that connect it to Johannesburg and other areas. You will find shopping centers, restaurants, and accommodations spread throughout the location.

An artificial lake built in the town remained empty at first and was mocked by critics, until a flood in 1889 filled it with water. The official who planned it saw his vision unexpectedly validated by nature.
