Sibebe, Granite monolith north of Mbabane, Eswatini
Sibebe is a massive granite monolith north of Mbabane that rises steeply above the Mbuluzi River valley. The rock formation dominates the landscape and offers sweeping views across the surrounding terrain from its heights.
The granite formed about three billion years ago and contains traces of human settlement from the Stone Age and Middle Stone Age periods. Archaeological excavations at Sibebe Shelter reveal that people inhabited this region in ancient times.
The Mbabane-Mbuluzi Rotary Club coordinates the annual Sibebe Survivor walk, bringing thousands of participants together for local charitable causes.
Visitors can hike with a guide or join organized tours that follow established paths up the rock. Starting early in the day and bringing plenty of water and sun protection is recommended for the trek.
After rainfall, multiple water streams cascade down the granite surface creating a silvery shimmer visible from great distances. This rare sight transforms the rocks into a gleaming spectacle that only appears when conditions are wet.
