Lukasrand Tower, Television tower in Lukasrand suburb, South Africa.
Lukasrand Tower is a television transmission facility that rises 198 meters with a cylindrical reinforced concrete structure. The construction serves as a central telecommunications hub for the region and is visible across much of Pretoria.
The facility was constructed in 1978 and was originally named John Vorster Tower. Over time it became a central telecommunications installation and remains a technological landmark for the region.
Between 2009 and 2012, the tower displayed a massive fibreglass soccer ball to honor the 2010 World Cup. This temporary installation became a striking visual landmark for the city's residents.
The observation deck provides panoramic views across Pretoria and the surrounding areas. Plan your visit on a clear day to make the most of the vantage point.
The tower sits atop Muckleneuk Hill, giving it prominence in the cityscape since its completion. Its elevated position on the hill makes it easily recognizable from far away and has made it a key reference point for navigating Pretoria.
