SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary, Wildlife rehabilitation center in Limpopo Province, South Africa
SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in South Africa's Limpopo Province that houses a variety of animals including leopards, cheetahs, lions, antelopes, and elephants. The animals live in a natural environment designed for their safety and recovery.
The sanctuary was founded in 2000 when Louise Joubert left her advertising career to focus on protecting animals from exploitation. This decision led to the creation of a center dedicated specifically to rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife.
The sanctuary serves as a refuge for animals rescued from captivity and reflects South Africa's commitment to wildlife protection. Visitors can observe how the community here works daily with the animals and cares for their health and welfare.
Visitors can stay overnight at Bukisa Camp in tents while observing wildlife and exploring the natural surroundings. Accommodation fees directly support the rescue operations and daily care of the animals on-site.
Ten lions rescued from South Africa's breeding industry now live here and represent the fight against commercial animal farming. These large cats demonstrate that it is possible to rehabilitate captive wildlife in a protected space and give them a dignified life.
