Parc de la vallée de la N'sele, Nature reserve in Maluku commune, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Parc de la vallée de la N'sele is a nature reserve with rivers, floodplains, and rolling terrain near the Batéké Plateau. The site spans large forested areas along the National N1 road and contains wildlife in both open and wooded sections.

The reserve was established in 2018 and formed part of a broader initiative to advance agriculture and sustainable development in the region. Its creation placed new focus on protecting the local natural landscape and its inhabitants.

The park hosts an annual Independence Day celebration on June 30, where regional crafts and local products are displayed. Visitors can experience traditional techniques and goods from different parts of the country during this event.

The park sits roughly 90 minutes from downtown Kinshasa and is easily reached by vehicle. Visitors can enjoy activities like kayaking, horse riding, and mountain biking, with good shoes and sun protection recommended.

The land is home to large wildlife including elephants, hippos, crocodiles, lions, and rhinos, some of which came from southern African regions. The mix of original animals and later-added species makes it an unexpected wildlife refuge close to the capital.
