Zoo de Saint-Denis, Animal park in Saint-Denis, Réunion Island.
The Saint-Denis Zoo was an animal park on Réunion Island with multiple enclosures and a large aviary designed for regional bird species. The facility sat near the Chaudron swimming pool and showcased wildlife typical to this Indian Ocean location.
The zoo project started in 1976 in Saint-Denis and gave local residents access to wildlife for more than three decades. It closed permanently in 2006, ending a long period of operation as a public attraction.
The facility served as an educational center for local residents and students, providing insights into indigenous wildlife and conservation methods on Réunion Island.
The location sat in the Chaudron district along Allée du Zoo and is no longer operational today. Visitors can still explore the grounds, but should know this is now a historical site with no animals present.
The zoo complex incorporated specific architectural elements adapted to the tropical climate of Réunion Island, including specialized habitats for local fauna.
