Piton de la Ravine Blanche, Mountain peak in La Plaine des Cafres, Réunion, France.
Piton de la Ravine Blanche is a mountain peak rising between 1333 and 1400 meters in the highlands of Reunion. The summit is covered in thick vegetation with paths winding through dense Tamarin trees whose roots crisscross the ground.
The botanical path was originally maintained by the Tamar'haut group and is now managed by the Ti Kaze association. This transition brought new care and conservation practices to the mountain trail.
The trail displays the diversity of highland plants with information panels about native and introduced species from the region. These signs help visitors understand the botanical richness visitors encounter along the path.
A loop trail of about 1.4 kilometers circles the peak and takes roughly 30 minutes to complete. The elevation gain is modest at around 70 meters, making the hike manageable for most visitors.
Fallen Tamarin trees continue to grow and survive after toppling over because their root systems remain anchored in the soil. This remarkable ability to regenerate makes them a distinctive feature of the highland environment.
