Cité du Volcan, Volcanology museum in Le Tampon, Réunion Island, France
The museum extends across 6,000 square meters with three distinct levels containing exhibits about volcanic phenomena and geological formations of Réunion Island.
The Cité du Volcan museum opened its doors on August 5, 2014, following an extensive renovation project conducted by the Reunion Region between 2010 and 2014.
The facility serves as an educational center where visitors learn about the deep connection between Réunion Island inhabitants and the active Piton de la Fournaise volcano.
The museum welcomes visitors from 1 PM to 5 PM on Mondays and 9:30 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Sunday, with guided tours available for a two-hour exploration.
The museum features a 270-degree auditorium, 4D cinema, and multisensory tunnel where visitors experience simulated volcanic conditions through holographic projections and augmented reality.
