Bumbuli District, Administrative district in Tanga Region, Tanzania
Bumbuli District is an administrative region in Tanzania's Tanga area, covering a broad expanse of rural settlements and smaller towns spread across undulating terrain. It sits between Lushoto District to the north and Korogwe District to the south, with Kwehangala serving as the main administrative center.
The district was formed in 2013 as an independent administrative entity when it separated from Lushoto District. This split was part of a broader reorganization to strengthen local governance across the region.
The district population includes multiple ethnic groups such as the Sambaa, Bondei, and Digo peoples, with Swahili serving as the primary language of communication.
The district divides into 18 administrative wards, each containing multiple villages and communities. Most areas are rural in character, so expect longer travel times when moving between settlements.
The population of Bumbuli District reached 159,373 residents according to the 2022 census, distributed across its numerous rural and semi-urban settlements.
