Palace Museum, Sultan palace museum in Stone Town, Tanzania.
The three-story Palace Museum displays restored period rooms with ceremonial furniture, thrones, and portraits documenting the sultanate's legacy in Zanzibar.
Built in 1890 as a royal residence, the structure transformed into the People's Palace following the 1964 Zanzibar Revolution before becoming a museum in 1994.
The museum exhibits memorabilia of Princess Salme, who fled to Hamburg in 1866, and contains artifacts showcasing the sultanate period from 1828 to 1896.
Located on Mizingani Road in Stone Town, the museum opens daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with admission fees of 4 USD for adults.
The upper floor terrace provides views of the seafront, while the palace grounds feature the tombs of sultans and a vintage Austin Princess car.
