Isinya–Singida High Voltage Power Line, High voltage transmission line between Isinya and Singida, Kenya and Tanzania
This high voltage transmission line connects Isinya in Kenya with Singida in Tanzania over approximately 500 kilometers using a double-circuit 400kV alternating current system. The route crosses the international border at Namanga and passes through diverse landscapes in both countries.
The project was initiated in 2015 to improve electricity transfer capacities between Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia through regional interconnection. Its completion represented part of broader efforts to integrate power grids across East Africa.
The power line implementation required negotiations with local communities regarding land rights and compensation across both Kenyan and Tanzanian territories.
The line is visible from most roads but runs partly through remote areas and requires special permits for closer approaches. Visitors should note that the infrastructure lies within security zones and access is not possible everywhere.
The line crosses the border between the two countries at Namanga, creating one of the region's major physical connections for power transfer. Its construction required coordination between national authorities and international energy firms to function as a unified system.
