Bird Island

Bird Island extends 1500 meters in length and 800 meters in width, featuring white sandy beaches alongside clear waters of the Indian Ocean.

The island, initially named Ile aux Vaches due to local manatee populations, underwent transformation from plantations to conservation grounds in the late 1960s.

The Bird Island Lodge implements traditional Seychellois practices of sustainable living, growing local produce and sourcing fish from surrounding waters.

Visitors reach the island through a thirty-minute flight from Mahé, with accommodation provided in simple oceanfront bungalows without modern electronics.

The island hosts 700,000 pairs of sooty terns that arrive in March, lay eggs in May, and depart by October, creating the largest bird colony in Seychelles.
