Anse Lazio, Beach in Praslin Island, Seychelles
Anse Lazio is a wide sandy beach on Praslin's northwestern coast that stretches roughly 600 meters and is framed by large granite boulders and coconut palms. The turquoise water slopes down steadily, making it suitable for swimming and snorkeling.
The beach gained international recognition in the 1990s when travel magazines highlighted its natural features and swimming conditions. Since then it has become a popular destination while local fishing practices have continued unchanged.
Local fishermen continue their daily work at the beach, selling fresh catches to nearby restaurants that serve traditional Creole dishes. The eating places reflect how the community connects with the ocean and its resources.
The beach is accessible from three parking areas via marked paths and has lifeguards on duty. Visitors should be aware that the water deepens quickly without a protective coral reef, requiring caution when entering.
Unlike many other Seychelles beaches, no coral reef protects this bay, resulting in noticeably deeper water and stronger currents. This characteristic makes the spot interesting for experienced swimmers and snorkelers but requires more caution when entering the water.
