Rumah Gadang Kampai Nan Panjang, Traditional Minangkabau house in Nagari Belimbing, Indonesia.

The Rumah Gadang Kampai Nan Panjang is a traditional Minangkabau residence with four distinctive roof gables made of palm fiber, constructed entirely from dark wood. The rectangular structure contains several small rooms accessible through a central entrance with front stairs.

The house was built around 300 years ago as a residence for Datuk Panghulu Basa and his family from the Kampai Nan Panjang clan using traditional construction methods. The original building techniques have remained unchanged, demonstrating the enduring strength of Minangkabau craftsmanship.

The house reflects Minangkabau traditions through its distinctive architectural form, especially the soaring roof peaks that define this cultural heritage. Visitors can observe how the interior spaces were designed for both everyday living and family gatherings, showing how deeply this building is rooted in the community's way of life.

The doorways throughout the house are narrow, requiring careful movement and limiting what can easily be carried inside or moved around. Take your time exploring to appreciate the compact layout and understanding how the space was organized for living.

The entire structure was assembled without using nails, relying instead on traditional joinery techniques that have held the wood together for centuries. A storage loft is visible within the exposed roof framework on the left side, showing how practically the space was used.
