The house was built around 300 years ago as a residence for Datuk Panghulu Basa and his family from the Kampai Nan Panjang clan using traditional construction methods. The original building techniques have remained unchanged, demonstrating the enduring strength of Minangkabau craftsmanship.
The house reflects Minangkabau traditions through its distinctive architectural form, especially the soaring roof peaks that define this cultural heritage.
