Matagarup Bridge, Pedestrian bridge in Burswood Peninsula, Australia.
Matagarup Bridge is a pedestrian bridge in Perth, Australia, that crosses the Swan River with two steel arches. The structure links East Perth to Burswood Peninsula and functions mainly as access to the nearby stadium.
Work started in November 2015 with company Civmec producing the steel components locally. The opening to the public took place in July 2018, timed to coincide with the completion of the new stadium.
The name comes from Nyungar language and refers to a section of the river where the water was shallow enough to cross. Today the structure serves as a main route for pedestrians and cyclists heading to the stadium, especially during sporting events.
The crossing works well for pedestrians and cyclists, especially on game nights when lighting guides the way. Visitors interested in the climbing experience or zipline should check availability and weather conditions beforehand.
Visitors can climb the steel arches and take in views of the riverbanks and city below. A zipline runs from the top and offers a fast way back down to ground level.
